Yesterday, just weeks after we were celebrating the long-overdue decision to repeal the two-child limit, I found myself on LBC radio making the case once again for why this change is so urgently needed to improve the lives of families struggling the most. The interview followed Reform’s announcement that, if elected, it would reinstate the policy,  a move that would keep nearly half a million children in poverty. For those of us who have campaigned on this issue for years, and most especially for the families directly affected, the reaction is likely to be a mixture of anger, weariness, anxiety and fear for the future.

It also underlines the need for us to keep up our campaigning efforts, especially in the context of the forthcoming elections. This was very much the focus of discussion at last week’s 4in10 Policy Forum. We agreed to publish our joint policy Action Plan for tackling child poverty in London in March, and to use it as a tool to engage candidates standing for election as local councillors.

We will shortly be seeking members’ endorsement of the Action Plan and we will also be asking for your help in reaching prospective councillors. With thousands of candidates standing across London, we simply won’t be able to reach them all without the support of our network.

Best wishes
