It may still be the summer holidays but we are busy as ever at 4in10.This week we have begun our series of online one-hour thematic listening sessions to gather evidence and views from across the Network to feed into the response to the child poverty strategy we are planning to publish in the autumn. These have all been really energetic, focused and extremely helpful, so huge thanks to those members who took part and also to those of you who have sent over your thoughts via email.

There are two more sessions taking place next week:

Supporting opportunities for young people: 26 August 2-3pm
Inequalities (addressing intersectional inequalities faced by groups disproportionately experiencing child poverty): 28 August 11am– 12pm

We also have a number of events coming up in the Autumn including three Child Poverty Free Community events in Merton, Kensington & Chelsea and Barnet. These are a chance for members (and prospective members) to come together, share experiences & information and find new ways to collaborate & campaign to end child poverty in their localities. Details below - please sign up if you work in one of these areas.

And finally we have a new information event 'Supporting migrants and minoritised families through the SEND diagnosis process' which will be held on 18 September. This intersectional issue is one of the most frequently raised by members across the Network, so this session will shine a light on the barriers families face, look at how organisations can support families to overcome them, as well as consider ways to advocate for a more inclusive, accessible system. Calls to Action

Young Roots are asking people to write to their MPs calling for changes in law or policy to improve the lives of young asylum-seekers and refugees so that they are able to rebuild their futures, and live their hopes and dreams. Read more about the changes they are advocating for here.

The purpose of these events is to:

Introduce 4in10 and explain how we can support you or your organisation in your efforts to tackle child poverty
Provide up to date information about child poverty in your community that will be useful to your work
Discuss the key and emerging issues for children, families and young people living on low incomes in the borough
Explore ways we can collaborate to campaign for a child poverty free community in your local area
Facilitate an opportunity to network with others who share your aims

The London Assembly Economy, Culture and Skills Committee has announced an inquiry into current and projected trends relating to birth rates and the number of children in London and how these trends differ in inner and outer London.

Funding Opportunities

The Black Food Fund

The Black Food Fund is offering grants of up to £25k to back projects to enhance the local food system for Black families in Lambeth and Southwark. The Black Food Fund aims to support projects that centre Black African and Caribbean research, knowledge, education, and advocacy to promote health equity in the local food system. Submit your expression of interest by 12:00pm on Thursday 11 September.

GLA: Inclusive Talent Brokerage Fund

The GLA's Inclusive Talent Brokerage Fund provides funding to enable community-based organisations to increase their capacity to connect underrepresented Londoners with good work opportunities. Organisations can apply for a £40,000 to £70,000 grant. Deadline is 1 September 2025.

Chapman Charitable Trust

The Chapman Charitable Trust a UK grant-giving charity focused on organisations which promote physical and mental wellbeing, conserve our natural environment, and increase the accessibility of the arts. The Chapman Charitable Trust's (CCT) trustees meet twice a year to distribute the income of the charity. The deadline for the next funding round is 31 August.

D'Oyly Carte Charitable Trust

The D’Oyly Carte Charitable Trust funds United Kingdom Registered Charities operating in the UK in the fields of the advancement of the arts, health and medical welfare and environmental protection or improvement. The Trustees will consider applications for core costs or projects. The Trustees usually consider applications three times a year in March, July and November. The next grant making meeting will be on the 18th November 2025 and the final closing date for the submission of online applications for this meeting is at 11:59pm on the 30th September 2025.

London Catalyst

London Catalyst's Main Grants Programme aims to address factors that influence health outcomes including poverty, housing, education, employment, discrimination and isolation. They fund registered charity organisations with an income of £500,000 or less, based and operating in London. Organisations can apply for grants for unrestricted costs, core costs or project costs (existing or new projects). Funding is for a minimum of 1 year and a maximum of 3 years. The maximum grant for one year is £10,000. The deadline for the Main Grants Programme deadline is 15th September

And finally

We always encourage members to show our logo where possible, so everyone knows that you are part of a movement that is working for a child poverty free London.

You are welcome to pass this newsletter onto your networks. We welcome new members and although much of what we do is available to members and non-members, members are the first to know and get first chance to book training and so on.

As well as your reports, news and data, please send us information about small local grant givers, discounts and vouchers available, new support services, in fact anything that might help alleviate the impact of poverty in small ways and support other organisations to do their work. We will continue to demand systemic change but hope that these tips will be of immediate use. Anything you can share send it our way!

Check your entry on the 4in10 database of all voluntary organisations changing and challenging the impact of poverty on London’s children and their families. Let us know of any errors or changes you would like and please tell us about any organisations we may have missed.
