Dear

Yesterday (23 October) the Government published a strategy engagement document setting out a framework for the child poverty strategy that will come out in the Spring. The End Child Poverty Coalition of which 4in10 is an active member, put out this quote from its chair Joe Howes in response.

Over the coming weeks and months we will be working with the 4in10 Policy Forum to idenitfy and engage with opportunities to influence the strategy as it takes shape and make sure that urgent, concrete steps are taken towards eradicating poverty for all children, including those in London. If you would like to join the Policy Forum mailing list drop us a line.

London Challenge Poverty Week

Last week was London Challenge Poverty Week and a huge thank you to all everyone who took part; hosting and attending events, publishing reports and blogs, launching films and getting involved on social media. For 4in10 a particular highlight was the meeting with representatives of our Policy Forum with Deputy Mayor Debbie Weekes-Bernard which a number of members attended to raise issues including the need for the GLA to put in place a strategic response to child poverty in our city, the impact of poverty on children and families' mental health and access to emergency welfare support. The Deputy Mayor wrote an article for London Challenge Poverty Week here.

A few more highlights from a very busy week included:

  • The annual Child Poverty Summit, hosted by The Childhood Trust was a hive of connection and collaboration had some fabulous speakers. Read about it here.
  • 4in10 members Babyzone and Trussell appeared alongside our friends at Age UK London on a BBC London News feature about the impact on poverty on Londoners of all age.
  • Some brilliant blogs, podcasts and articles were published that are well worth spending some time reading and listening to so grab a cuppa and have a browse here on the LCPW wesbite.
  • Policy in Practice and JRF hosted a webinar with on RAPID – their new real time poverty metrics dashboard for London which will be so helpful to many 4in10 members. Watch again here.

Thank you all for your support in making all this and much more happen!

And finally

We always encourage members to show our logo where possible, so everyone knows that you are part of a movement that is working for a child poverty free London.

You are welcome to pass this newsletter onto your networks. We welcome new members and although much of what we do is available to members and non-members, members are the first to know and get first chance to book training and so on.

As well as your reports, news and data, please send us information about small local grant givers, discounts and vouchers available, new support services, in fact anything that might help alleviate the impact of poverty in small ways and support other organisations to do their work. We will continue to demand systemic change but hope that these tips will be of immediate use. Anything you can share send it our way!

Check your entry on the 4in10 database of all voluntary organisations changing and challenging the impact of poverty on London’s children and their families. Let us know of any errors or changes you would like and please tell us about any organisations we may have missed.

With very best wishes

Maddie, Katherine & Emily
